packaging, uses, and safety. Determine the target market and how the product
can meet its needs. For example, professionals, housewives, business owners,
students, or golfers may require different features or benefits.
Price: When determining the price of a
product, consider the target market and competition. Too high a price can deter
buyers, while too low a price may affect profits. Common pricing models include
cost-plus pricing and value-based pricing, which sets the price based on the
perceived value to consumers, often used for luxury items.
Promotion: Promotion raises awareness about
a product or service. Advertising is the most common form of promotion, using
media like TV, radio, print, and online. Promotion can serve various purposes
like gaining market share, improving brand image, or launching a new product.
Effective promotion creates a need or desire for the product, leading to
increased sales.
Place: The concept of place refers to the
distribution channels; this is where the product will sell and how to hit the
market. If you operate a business whose headquarters is home, as sales on eBay,
it is likely that the market is Internet, and you want to send your products
directly to consumers. Larger businesses, such as consumer goods manufacturers
can sell their products at a grocery wholesaler, who then distributed to retail
stores in the field.
By
effectively balancing these four elements, companies can create a marketing
strategy that resonates with their target market, generates sales, and builds
long-term customer relationships.
