Why is it more reasonable to use ferrous ions than ferric ions?
Iron is called as one way substance, because it is absorbed and excreted from small intestine. Iron can be absorbed in two forms:
(1) ferrous iron.
(2) ferric iron.
Ferrous iron is absorbed three times more than ferric iron. This is because ferric ions cannot be absorbed directly. It is first converted to ferrous ions by ascorbic acid then it is absorbed. So it is more reasonable to use ferrous ions than ferric ions.
