 Family: Umbelifere

  Main Chemical constituent :

·      +Linalool  (65-70%)

·       Pinene.

Biological source: Cinnamomum Cassia

Main chemical constituent:

·      Cinnamoldehyde (80-95 %)

·      Limonene

·      Bita Caryophyllene

·      Eugenol

Use:

1. pungent, carminative, aromatic, powerful germicide, antiseptic, mild astringent properties.

 


Clove oil



Biological source: Eugenia Caryophyllus

Family: Mytaceae

Main chemical constituent:

Volatile oil:

·      Eugenol(85-90%)

·      Acetyl Eugenol(3%)

·      Alpha and bita Caryophyllene

Other chemical constituent:

·      Tannins (10-13%)

·      Triterpenic acid

·      Ester

Eugenol

  Acetyl Eugenol

Use:

1. Use in toothpaste as a remedy of dental carries.

2. it is used as antiseptic and use as  counter-irritant properties.

3. it is used as stimulant agent.

4. it is also used as flavoring agent.



      

Spearmint (mint/pudina )

Biological source: Spearmint consists of the dried leaf & flower tops of Mentha spicata or M. cardiata.

Family: Labiatae.

Geographical source : The plant is found in European & Asian countries & widely cultivated in U.S.A.

chemical constitutions : spearmint contains-

(1)volatile oils (0.5%)

The principal component is carvone (50-55%) along with some other monoterpenic constitutents like limonene, phellandrene, dipentene cineol, Alpha-pinene, Linalool etc.

Uses :

1. It is used as flavouring agent, spice & carminative

2. It  is given in fever, vomiting & bronchitis.

3. It is employed as a lotion in aphthae.

4. It is considered as an antispasmodic.

5. It is a diuretic that promotes urine flow.

6. It is considered as an effective expectorant that helps of expel excess mucus.
