Sedative: A Sedative is a drug that produce a relaxing calming effect. sedative are usually given during daytime hours and although they made may the patient drowsy, they usually do not produce sleep.
Hypnotic: Hypnotic is a drug that induces sleep that
is, it allows the patient to fall asleep and stay asleep hypnotics also may be
called at soporifics. hypnotics are given at night or hour of sleep.
1. Ultrashort acting (thiamylal, thiopental)
2. Short acting (Secobarbital, Pentobarbital)
3. Intermediate acting (Amobarbital, aprobarbital,Butabarbital)
4. Long acting (Phenobarbital mephobarbital)
